Self-Regulation Of Media Has Failed," says Bombay HC In Plea Against 'Media Trial' In SSR Case

On Friday, A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice G S Kulkarni of the Bombay High Court expressed their concerns regarding the lack of a statutory regulatory body for the electronic media.
The bench made the remarks after hearing PIL petitions soliciting regulation of "media trial" in the Sushant Singh Rajput case.
It has also urged the Union Ministry to take appropriate measures to control this problem or "the entire system will break down" due to the failure of the self-regulation mechanism for media.
The hearing of the PIL has been adjourned till Monday(October 19), when Senior Advocate Arvind P Datar has to make submissions on behalf of the News Broadcasters Standards Association(NBSA).
