Regarding the banned of the sales and use of firecrackers in West Bengal during kali Puja Justice DY Chandrachud and indira Banerjee told that festivals are important but life itself has been imperilled now amid the pandemic

They also stated that the court knew the condition better and it should be allowed to do the needful. On an appeal filed by Gautam Roy and the burrabazaar dealer association on the apex court stating that the court has banned the sale and use of firecracker during kali Puja, chhath Puja.


The court stated that the high court had taken the interest of the senior citizens who may have comorbidities. The court also told that the banned will be forced during the Jagaddhatri Puja, chhath and Kartik Puja. The court directed the guidelines during the Durga Puja and also asked the police officers to ensure the norms strictly enforced on the festival as well. Regarding the banned of the sales and use of firecrackers in West Bengal during kali Puja Justice DY Chandrachud and indira Banerjee told that festivals are important but life itself has been imperilled now amid the pandemic. They also stated that the court knew the condition better and it should be allowed to do the needful. On an appeal filed by Gautam Roy and the burrabazaar dealer association on the apex court stating that the court has banned the sale and use of firecracker during kali Puja, chhath Puja.”We are in a situation where, at this time, preservation of life is more important and the high court knows what is required at the ground level.”

The court directed the guidelines during the Durga Puja and also asked the police officers to ensure the norms strictly enforced on the festival as wellFifteen people will be allowed in the Kali Puja pandals having an area up to 300 sq metres, and 45 in the bigger ones, the court had said, while disallowing procession during immersion.
