No hair growth as promised in advertisement: Consumer court penalizes Brand Ambassador for False claim

In a recently order, a consumer court in Kerala has held a film actor liable for making false claims endorsing a hair cream product without determining its effectiveness.
The District consumer Redressal forum, ordered the manufacturers of “Dhathri Hair cream” and film actor “Anoop Menon” the celebrity who endorsed the product in the advertisement, to pay the compensation of ₹10,000 each to a consumer for making such “False promises”.
The order was passed on a consumer complaint filed by a Mr. Vadakkan against the Dhatri medical pvt ltd and the actor.
The complainant told that he bought the cream after seeing the advertisement in which it promised that the use of the product for few weeks will definitely assure the hair growth.
Even after applying, no improvement was seen. Feeling humiliated, he approached the forum for seeking compensation alleging ‘deficiency in service’.
The forum made sharp remarks regarding the advertisement which indulges to attract the consumers.
