New US coronavirus cases rise 17% in past week, deaths up 5%

After falling for eight straight weeks, last week for the first time the number of new COVID-19 cases on weekly basis increased. The health experts imposed an extension to schools reopening and holiday parties over the Labor Day.

As per Reuters analysis of state and county reports, by Sept 20. new cases rose 17% to about 287,000 while deaths rose 5.5% to about 5,400 people.

Approximately more than 776 people died per day last week. On Saturday a record has been set by the country for testing over 1 million.

Positive test rates are still there in 26 of the 50 states above the 5% level which was considered by World Health Organization . In the Midwest The highest positive test rates are there which is at over 16% in Idaho, Wisconsin, Iowa and South Dakota.
