Milenio channel's News Anchor threatened by Mexican drug cartel.

As he threatened to kill a journalist, a man claiming to be the leader of one of Mexico's most powerful drug cartels wanted "equal" media coverage of a turf conflict. After receiving death threats, the Mexican government committed to protect a national television news anchor on Monday. A video circulating on social media showed a guy threatening the Milenio station and its host Azucena Uresti, identifying himself as the boss of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
The man in the video, who was surrounded by several masked men brandishing high-powered weapons, demanded "equal" coverage of the cartel's conflict with its rivals. The message claimed that the channel favoured so-called self-defense groups fighting the Jalisco cartel in Michoacan's western state. The man stated that he did not want to stifle freedom of expression, but only wanted fair coverage.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) considers the Latin American country to be one of the most dangerous countries for journalists in the world. Since 2018, over 100 journalists and activists have been killed in Mexico. Only a small percentage of the crimes have led to convictions.
