Madras High Court directs blocking of derogatory remarks by former judge CS Karnan on social media

A Bench of Justices M Sathyanarayanan and R Hemalatha of the Madras High Court observed that the remarks made by former High Court judge, Justice CS Karnan were 'prima facie highly defamatory.'
The Bench considered the plea by the Tamil Nadu Bar Council and ordered authorities to block the derogatory remarks from all social media sites.
The State Bar Council sought criminal and legal action against the former Judge and prayed for an interim direction to block the URL of websites that had shared Karnan's derogatory remarks.
The High Court stated that it is unfortunate that a person who held a high Constitutional office has made such remarks and added that his statements constituted cognizable offenses and offenses under the law for the prevention of sexual harassment of women at the workplace.
The Bench also asked why even after lodging of an FIR, no one took action against him.
