After a Member of Parliament, P. Wilson raised concerns in the Rajya Sabha about inadequate representation of minorities in the Supreme Court, the Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, stated that there is no reservation in the judiciary as the judges are appointed under Article 124 of the Constitution.
He, however, clarified that the Government has been requesting that the vulnerable communities should have increased representation in appointments to High Courts. It will directly be a solution to the problem of poor representation of many groups in the Supreme Court as the judges of SC are mostly appointed from the High Courts.
