Kim Jong -un's sister cautions against a military drill between South Korea and the United States.

According to state-run media, Kim Jong- un's sister stated on Sunday that a scheduled military exercise between Seoul and Washington will "becloud" relations. A string of personal letters between Mr. Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in has produced a surprising thaw on the Korean peninsula, prompting the caution. On Tuesday, the two sides announced that their leaders had decided to focus on repairing ties after their connections were cut off more than a year ago.
However, Kim Yo-jong, a close adviser to her brother, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, warned that if the South undertakes joint military drills with the US later this month, the mood could alter. Seoul and Washington are treaty allies, with the US stationing some 28,500 troops in the South to protect it from its nuclear-armed neighbour.
In June 2018, the dovish Moon is credited with brokering the first-ever meeting between North Korea and a sitting US president, which took place in Singapore. However, after a second summit between Kim and then-US President Donald Trump in Hanoi collapsed, Pyongyang effectively cut off relations with Seoul, putting nuclear talks on hold.
