Kerala HC Issues Guidelines For Maintaining Rape Victim Anonymity In Cases Filed Before It

The Kerala High Court issued few future guidelines for maintaining rape victim's anonymity in the matters instituted before it. Justice P B Suresh Kumar observed that most of the time several matters instituted before the Supreme Court, the identity of the victim is disclosed. The court needs to maintain anonymity of victims as it violates Section 228 A of IPC, section 24(5),33(7) and 37 of the Protection of child from Sexual Offences Act 2012. The criteria to decide the identity of victim shall include the identity of victim's family, educational institutions, relatives. An officer shall be designated for the authentication of documents. After this, registry shall forward the documents in sealed covers in an envelope. This will be opened by the courts
