Kashmiri students attacked in Punjab engineering college after India’s loss to Pakistan at T20 WC
Following India's loss to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup on Sunday, Kashmiri students allegedly cheering for the neighbouring country were reportedly beaten up by other students, the majority of whom were from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana, at an engineering college in Sangrur and another educational institution in Kharar, Punjab.
According to a video posted on social media, a Kashmiri student claimed that some Uttar Pradesh students barged into their room. "We were watching the match here when some Uttar Pradesh students forcibly entered and assaulted us," a student stated.
Students from Kashmir, as well as those from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana, were claimed to be watching the match in their respective rooms at Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology in Sangrur.
Kashmiri students were allegedly praising Pakistan and raising 'azadi' slogans in two wings of the engineering college's dormitories. They allegedly blew firecrackers and celebrated the neighbouring country's victory after the contest ended. This did not sit well with other students from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, who rushed inside the Kashmiri students' dorms and got into a heated disagreement that resulted in a brawl.
