In Tamil Nadu, a 19-year-old woman was arrested for marrying a minor boy and sexually assaulting him.
According to police, a 19-year-old woman working at a fuel filling station in the Pollachi area of Chennai was arrested on Monday for marrying a minor boy.
She was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act for marrying and sexually assaulting the 17-year-old boy.
Police filed a case under the POCSO Act's Sections 5(I) (aggravated sexual assault) and 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault). She was brought before the special court and remanded to the Coimbatore Central Prison for judicial custody.According to the police, the woman dropped out of school after failing Class 10 and went to work at a petrol bunk in Pollachi. The young boy, who had finished the Plus 2 Class, was a regular at the petrol bunk, and the woman fell in love with him and later eloped with him to Dindigul.
On Thursday, they married in Dindigul and returned to Coimbatore, where they stayed in rented lodging. On Saturday, the boy's mother filed a complaint with the police, and when the woman learned of the complaint, she surrendered to the Pollachi all-women police station.Dr. Manoj Ragunathan, a child clinical psychologist in Coimbatore, told IANS, "These types of cases are uncommon, and the number of women who take the initiative in such a relationship is low.
