Hezbollah's leader accuses Judge Tarek Bitar of "political targeting".

Hezbollah's leader accused the judge overseeing the investigation into the Beirut port explosion of being biassed and politicised on Monday. "You won't receive the truth," he informed victims of the devastating bomb. Judge Tarek Bitar was using "the blood of the martyrs to fulfil political purposes," according to Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. On the anniversary of the bombing in August, he accused Bitar of "playing politics."
"If you think this judge will get you to the truth - he won't," Nasrallah said in a televised address to the victims' families. "We want a judge who is open and honest." Nasrallah has asked for a meeting of Lebanon's Higher Judicial Council, the country's highest judicial body. It has the power to vote Bitar out of the case, as well as his right to work as a judge.
"Going after specific agencies, specific ministers, and a specific prime minister is clearly political targeting," Nasrallah said, asking why Bitar had not reached out to other former ministers who served terms during the six years the explosive material was stored in an unsafe manner at Beirut's Port.
Interrogations with Khalil are scheduled for Tuesday, followed by Machnouk and Zeiter on Wednesday. Diab, the former prime minister, is currently in the United States, so he lined up a date to question him later this month.
