Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman summoned Infosys CEO for tax portal issues

The Finance Ministry called Salil Parekh, the Managing Director and CEO of Infosys, on Monday, August 23, to offer an explanation to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressing the technological difficulties that have caused the new income tax e-filing platform to remain unavailable for two days. Mr Parekh has been invited to North Block because, even after more than two months since its launch on June 7, the new income tax e-filing platform continues to be plagued by technical issues, with users reporting that numerous areas are either unavailable or delayed.
On August 23, 2021, the Ministry of Finance called Salil Parekh, MD & CEO of Infosys to explain to the Hon'ble FM why issues in the new e-filing platform have not been rectified even after 2.5 months after its introduction. In fact, the portal has been down since August 21, 2021, according to a tweet from the Internal Revenue Service. Ms Sitharaman had summoned a meeting with Infosys executives earlier on June 22 and instructed them to fix all the faults as quickly as possible and answer all taxpayer grievances.
However, given the lack of progress on that front and the fact that users are still having issues using the portal, Infosys' CEO has been asked to give an explanation. Due to recent internet issues, the Internal Revenue Service said that it will reimburse all late fines and extra interest levied to taxpayers.
