Delhi High Court refuses to entertain plea for immediate lockdown

A Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Prateek Jalan of the Delhi High Court rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) petition by Dr. Kaushal Kant Mishra seeking immediate lockdown in Delhi to slow down COVID-19 transmission.
The Bench said that it was not in their hands as it is a policy decision.
Advocate Pooja Dhar pleaded that a strict lockdown should be instituted due to the critical situation of COVID-19 and air pollution in the city.
The court appreciated her concern but asked if lockdown is the only solution as reports have suggested that lockdown is ineffective.
The court suggested them to plead in front of the Delhi government for a lockdown.
The petition was rejected with costs as it did not mention the Union Government.
