Collegium recommends transfer of Justice Sureshwar Thakur from Himachal Pradesh to Punjab & Haryana High Court
The Supreme Court Collegium today recommended the transfer of Judge Sureshwar Thakur from the High Court of Himachal Pradesh to the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
Judge Thakur is currently the third senior judge in the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
He was born in 1963. His father, Hira Singh Thakur, is also a judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh.
Judge Thakur graduated from Himachal Pradesh University with a law degree, and began practicing in Himachal Pradesh High Court in 1987. From 1994 to 2000, he was an additional Standing counsel of the central government.
In 2001, he was appointed as an additional district judge. From June 2005 to October 2005, he served as a district judge in Kinnaur, Rampur after holding this position in various districts.
He was appointed as the Registrar of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in 2013 for a one-year term.
He was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in May 2014. In November 2014, he was sworn in as a judge of the High Court.
