Centre to give ₹100 each to children covered by mid day meal scheme
The Centre has planned to provide each child in government schools in Class 1 to Class 8 who is a beneficiary of the Mid Day Meal Programme around $100. Right to Food activists, on the other hand, argue that this is insufficient to achieve the nutrition security that this legislation promises. According to a statement released by the Education Ministry on Friday, the money, totaling Rs 1200 crore, will be distributed to 11.8 crore children via direct benefit transfer as a one-time payment. The funds come from the scheme's cooking cost component, according to the report.
“This decision will aid in safeguarding children's nutritional levels and protecting their immunity during hard pandemic times,” according to the statement. For this objective, the Central Government will grant State Governments and UT Administrations with additional funds of around 1200 crore.
