As rumours of a split in the Chhattisgarh Congress continue, Bhupesh Baghel is expected to visit Delhi today.
Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, is expected to travel Delhi on August 27 for the second time this week to meet senior Congress leaders, according to party sources on Thursday, despite his rejection of talks about a CM rotation. Several Congress MLAs close to Baghel have begun leaving for Delhi, according to local sources, while two ministers and some legislators have already set up camp in the national capital.
Baghel arrived in Raipur on Wednesday evening after former Congress president Rahul Gandhi met with him and minister T S Singh Deo to try to mediate the power struggle between the two senior leaders. Over a dozen Congress legislators and functionaries met earlier in the day at Raipur's New Circuit House, according to reports. “On Friday, the chief minister will travel for Delhi, while Singh Deo is already there,” they claimed.
A Congress MLA said the party's high command will address the situation in the state, where the party took power in December 2018 after ending the BJP's 15-year tenure.
He urged Congress legislators to follow the high command's and senior leaders' orders and maintain party discipline. Punia informed reporters after Rahul Gandhi's meetings with Baghel and Singh Deo in Delhi on Tuesday that their discussions focused on development problems rather than leadership transition.
