Amarinder Singh to launch his own party, says open to seat arrangement with BJP in Punjab polls

Amarinder Singh, a Congress leader and former Punjab chief minister, stated on Tuesday (October 19) that he will start his own political party soon and is hopeful of a seat deal with the BJP if the farmers' issue is resolved in their favour. After a heated rivalry with Navjot Singh Sidhu and infighting inside the state Congress, Singh resigned as chief minister of Punjab last month. Charanjit Singh Channi was appointed in his place by the party.

"The fight for Punjab's future is underway. Will soon announce the formation of my own political party to represent the interests of Punjab and its people, including our farmers who have been fighting for survival for more than a year "Singh remarked. He further stated that he will not rest until "my people and my state" have a safe future. "Punjab need political stability as well as defence against internal and external threats. I pledge my people that I would go to any length to safeguard their peace and security.
