Allahabad High Court denies bail to Samajwadi Party leader Mohd Azam Khan and son

Justice Suneet Kumar of the Allahabad High Court has rejected three bail applications moved by Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan and his son Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan after being accused in cases of forgery.
Azam Khan is being accused of purportedly manipulating the birthdate mentioned in a PAN card so as to allow his son to contest in the 2017 State elections. Abdullah's earlier PAN mentioned his date of birth as January 1, 1993, however, during the filing of papers for elections, it was shown as September 30, 1990.
While dismissing his bail pleas, Justice Kumar stated, "The allegations reflect deep rooted criminal conspiracy; gross misuse of position, exercise of coercion and threat in commission of the offence and perpetuating it."
The Court also took notice of the previous criminal records of the two bail applicants and stated that in the circumstances, the grant of bail would not be in the public interest.
