A top commander of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, killed in Balochistan
Police in Balochistan province stated on Thursday that a top leader of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), who was suspected of being involved in the deadly attack on the Civil Hospital in Quetta in 2016, had been killed, along with three other members of the proscribed militant group.
On Tuesday, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) launched an operation in the restive Balochistan province's Agbara district, killing Riaz Thekedar on the basis of a tip.
“Four terrorists were killed under heavy gunfire, while two others managed to flee,” police said.
The location yielded a significant stash of guns, ammunition, and weaponry.
According to a CTD spokeswoman, prominent TTP leader Thekedar was killed in the encounter.
The suicide bombing and gunfire by terrorists at the Civil Hospital in Quetta in 2016, at least 80 people were murdered and about 150 were injured.
