15 killed in Gujarat as truck runs over workers resting on trail, PMO announces ex-gratia
Fifteen migrant workers were killed after a truck ran over a gathering of 18 individuals resting on a trail at Kim Char Rasta close to Surat in Gujarat in the early times on Tuesday.
The people in question, all of whom were daily workers from Rajasthan's Banswara locale, were sleeping on the trail when a sugarcane-loaded farm hauler collided with another truck.
The transporter failed to keep a grip on the vehicle and veered off the street, onto the trail, running over more than 18 individuals who were sleeping there.
While 12 people were killed on the spot, three of the eight harmed passed away in a close by clinic.
The truck driver has been captured.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) took to Twitter to report ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF (Prime Minister's National Relief Fund) which would be given to the closest relative of the individuals who have lost their lives and Rs 50,000 each future given to those harmed.
