Karnataka High Court Refuses to Stay Proceedings Against Kangana Ranaut for Tweets on Farmers Protest (for now)
today,the Karnataka High Court refused to stay the proceedings initiated against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut over the tweets on the farmers protest.
During today’s hearing, advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, appearing for Ranaut, sought for the stay on the proceeding initiated against her.
Justice HP Sandesh has granted Ranaut a week’s time to obey office objections and posted the matter for the further hearing on 18th March.
On 9 October 2020 a judicial magistrate (first class) court at Bengaluru had directed the police to register an FII are against Ranaut for the tweets.
This after a complaint was filed by advocate Ramesh Naik, which stated that that on 21st September Kangana‘s team tweeted the following :
“People who spread misinformation and rumours about CA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformation about farmers bill and causing terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation.”
The order passed by the JMFC court, Ranaut moved to the High Court seeking to repeal the FIR.
