Baba Ramdev has announced that his Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth will soon open an allopathic medical college to train a new generation of allopathic MBBS doctors.

The yoga master also stated that he admires and respects allopathic medicine and doctors. individualsRamdev stated that he has "no prejudice against anyone" and that allopathy has saved millions of lives. While stating that he appreciates allopathy and current medical technology, he also stated that despite all of the advancements, allopathy still lacks a cure for many diseases.

He went on to say that there is no such thing as a "hate of allopathy," but that Ayurveda should be respected. He believes that, in addition to allopathic drugs, yoga is equally important, and that the two can work together to battle the fatal coronavirus.

The debate erupted after two videos of Ramdev went viral in which he is seen labelling allopathy a "stupid science" and claiming that lakhs of people had died despite receiving allopathic therapy.According to the IMA, the country lost 753 doctors during the first wave of the epidemic, when vaccines were unavailable, and 513 so far in the second wave. “None of those who died in the first wave were able to acquire the vaccine, and the majority of those who died in the second wave were likewise unable to receive their vaccine for various reasons,” according to the letter.

The IMA has filed a police case, as well as a defamation notice worth Rs 1,000 crore and a letter to Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a letter, the health minister chastised Ramdev for his remarks, after which the yoga guru apologised.
